Why don’t we ‘do’ spiritual gifts? This is a pretty big problem in the western church. We either deny spiritual gifts by delegating one person as the prophesy guy (pastor), or go all in on one specific gift and almost ignore the rest (like the Pentecostal tradition with tongues, or broadly evangelical circles with encouragement. )

Paul in this chapter wants everyone to have gifts. He even says to go so far as to pursue getting them, especially in prophesying. And why? So the church can support itself. So God can work through people in miraculous ways in tune with the gifts he’s given each of us.

So pray for each other for spiritual gifts, and test if they’re from God by using the to edify the church. It’s a miraculous part of being the church that we often miss.
