Reading Through The New Testament in 2016 - November 15th, 2016 - 1 Peter 5

I’m pretty sorry for how I’ve spoken about joining the board at CCCF. Often it’s talked about in a tone that is “Please, someone do it? I know it’s really hard and you don’t get paid but we really need it?”

It’s the “get nothing out of it” tone — that it is just a sacrifice.

Peter talks about being an elder as a privilege. It’s something you do because you want to do it and not because you are guilted into it.

Why?

Because it is an honor to care for God’s people. It is a privilege to have lived a life that can inspire others to follow Jesus. Taking on a role to serve Jesus by overseeing His people is beautiful.

And the reward it great too. It pays very well.

“you receive a crown of glory that won’t fade away” (vs 4)

Don’t be mistaken, it’s not easy, but the trials are temporary, meanwhile the reward is eternal.

As you read this, do you have a faith that others want? Do you model well what it means to be a follower of Jesus?

Do you aspire to care for, pray and serve God’s people?

Because there probably isn’t a better job out there than that one and a the pay doesn’t get any better.
