Church Fast - Let’s Turn all the days yellow!


Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.;” Matthew 4:4

Over the past few months the board and I have been taking days to fast and pray for you. We were getting so much out of it we wanted to invite all of you in on it!

Why do we want you to fast?

Fasting is a discipline that creates margin in our lives. Fasting echoes Jesus’ words to Satan in Matthew 4; we need to hear from God as much as we need to eat.

But, Fasting ain’t easy.

And that’s likely why it is not done very often.

I know it's hard, but that is part of the point. With every hunger pang it is reminder to pray. Every meal time becomes a sacred time to meet with God.

By removing food for a day, we’re creating space for God! And, even though it isn’t easy I know you will find it was worth it.

Here’s how it works:

Choose a Day:

Pictured here is the 40 days during lent. The white pages mean they haven’t been taken. The yellow indicates that someone has taken that day, but you can also take that day as well.

The squares with just the dates means that two people have taken that day and we don’t need any one else to take it.

We’re hoping to at least get every day to yellow.

Once you’ve chosen your day put it in your calendar, set a reminder, or email Gwynne and she will send a reminder email to you a day before.

Each card has suggestions for how you can pray for CCCF. Use it is a guide to help you throughout your fasting day.

On this day you can choose three different ways to fast based on what you feel is a good balance between hard and healthy.

  1. Fast from all treats and snacks. Just eat your three meals! This is great for those who know their bodies or lifestyles couldn’t handle a full on fast.

  2. Only Eat Fruits and Vegetables! This is known as a “Daniel fast” (from Daniel 1:12) and is an intermediate option for those that still need to eat.

  3. Fast from all solid foods for one day. This is recommended if your health and lifestyle can accommodate it. Feel free to fast Dinner to Dinner missing two meals, or fast the entire 3 meals and snacks for one day. Fluids are totally ok! And please make sure this fast falls in line with your health (check with your doctor if you are unsure).

This Sunday is the LAST SUNDAY before lent, so please take a day on Sunday! If you can’t make it, email us and we’ll reserve a day for you.
