How To Be Hated - Everything You Need For Sunday
We're in this part in Matthew where Jesus sends out his disciples to do the ministry He was doing. We come to this part where Jesus gives them instructions of what to do when they face persecution -- not if -- when. Jesus says they will be taken to court, flogged, imprisoned etc. And it made me realize: how come our faith is so tame these days? We don't have anyone coming after us: no one after us for challenging the oppressive systems, no one upset that we set someone free from trafficking, and only the rarest time does someone religious get upset with us for challenging religious systems. But, surely we shouldn't just be controversial just to be controversial, or be hated just to be hated, so then, what are we missing? What would it mean for us to find a purpose in bringing the Kingdom to earth even when we encounter push back? How do we find that again? And would we even be willing?
You know, just some pretty light stuff :)
