The Courage to Live - Everything You Need for Sunday

Hi Everyone! This Sunday falls on Halloween, which for me is a strange one. In my life I have been a boycotter; a backroom lights out, don’t answer the door type of thing. I’ve also been to plenty of Halloween alternatives in church parking lots, and I’ve done lots of trick or treating with my girls in recent years. Because Halloween falls on a Sunday, I sat with the question: what would it mean to redeem Halloween? Not just boycott it, or create a Christian alternative, but to see this day as a day to find Christ and the resurrection and get to know my neighbours. Christians in the past have redeemed a lot of pagan things (the Christmas tree is an easy example). So I thought about how we laugh at what scares us (primarily death) on Halloween. This led me to the resurrection. Christ’s resurrection gives us the power to laugh in the face of what scares us and to know that love overcomes fear. Looking forward to sharing this with you all on Sunday.

We'll also celebrate Communion! We have COVID-safe elements if you plan to join us in person. If you join us from home, please have your cracker/bread and juice ready.

In-person Sunday School!

We have in-person Sunday School for kids aged 4-12 with our amazing teacher, Alissa! Sunday School will be held after our worship time.

This weekend in Sunday School we will continue the story of Moses and the Exodus. Last week, one of the kids asked, “Why didn't God just use his power to help Moses get them out?” (Spoiler alert: He did!). In the story, we see the miracles of the 10 plagues and the splitting of the Red Sea which God used to help the people escape Egypt. God leads the Israelites across the wilderness for years to take them to the Promise Land, always providing for them and staying right by their side!

If you have any questions, or if there is any way that Alissa can support your family in discipling your children at home, please contact her at canyoncreek.churchoffice@gmail.com.

That's all you need to know for this Sunday. May God richly bless you as you worship together this Sunday!

God bless,

Justin
