We Can Be Those Scribes - Everything You Need for Sunday

Hi Everyone!

Why do you think our church exists? We easily could’ve folded many times. Some years, it was a miraculous year-end donation. One time, long ago, we had a small group of families that felt they couldn’t give up. We are getting through the pandemic in ways I never would’ve expected. This is an incredibly hard season for churches, and our church has experienced a lot of God’s grace. But why? What are we meant to do with this grace?

This Sunday we'll look at just one verse: Matthew 13:52 "And he said to them, 'Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.’” Does this verse seem out of place? Perhaps shoe-horned in? Maybe just sneaking in one last parable of Jesus before the chapter ends? But, what does it mean? What do you think it means?

Somehow, this little, seemingly out of place parable, speaks something to our church. Something about the reason why we’re here, and what we’re meant to do with all of this grace God has shown us. What is it? Well, we can be those scribes!

In-person Sunday School!

We have in-person Sunday School for kids aged 4-12 with our amazing teacher, Alissa! Sunday School will be held after our worship time.

This weekend in Sunday School we’ll be talking about more of the miracles of Jesus - specifically all the times He healed people. I think it's super interesting that Jesus only healed people who asked to be healed, as well as those who had been excommunicated or stigmatized by the community for something they could do nothing about. Jesus asks us to trust in Him, and to ensure that everyone is always welcome in the community. May we learn to love God and love our neighbours!

Our next Kids Club event will be a movie at the Canyon Meadows movie theatre on Feb 12th in the afternoon. Their website still isn’t showing the movies or times for that date but I hope to let you know in the announcements on Sunday!

If you have any questions, or if there is any way that Alissa can support your family in discipling your children at home, please contact her at canyoncreek.churchoffice@gmail.com.

That's all you need to know for this Sunday. May God richly bless you as we worship together this Sunday!

God bless,

Justin
